The verdict is in

The car is totaled. I am sick at the thought. Buying a car is not what I wanted to be doing this month. DH is allowed to keep the rental car until the 28th. With Christmas next week, I don't expect to get the settlement check quickly. We will start stalking the ads for a deal and hope we find something. Of course, the settlement will not buy much, so we will have to use our savings. We need safe and reliable for mostly highway driving. Pretty isn't necessary.

Merry Christmas to us.

Sarah

    1. Thanks. Always something, right? I know you have your own car problems. Sometimes, I wish we lived next to a metro station :)

  2. I have been reading for awhile but never commented. You are such an inspiration! I was in an accident this summer driving my son's car. The other driver's insurance company totaled it and I was devastated. I had done nothing wrong and buying a new car as he headed off to private college was not an option. Thankfully I have my own great mechanic/body work guy. He guided me to buy back the salvage, take the insurance check and he could fix the car for a lot less than they were willing to pay me. He told me he would put his own daughter in that car. Maybe you could do something like this too. Hope it can work out for you! Debbie from Indiana

    1. Hi Debbie! We actually did look into this, but decided not to. The amount insurance would deduct for us to keep the car would make it a wash. And we would have to get a salvage title for the car - and lose the option of comprehensive coverage. It's all so frustrating, as you know!

  3. That stinks, Sarah. I hope you find a good used car for a reasonable price.
